BOBCATS' JAMES ACCLAIMED STANDOUT PLAYER FOR '53 IN NIRL SECOND DIVISION
The outstanding player in the North Island Second Division in 1953 was Theodore shortstop Elliott James... he sparked the pennant-winning Bobcats to a 14-6 record with a .370 batting average, which was the fourth-best in the league... the 25-year-old James cracked 30 hits in 20 games with 5 doubles, 2 triples, 13 runs batted in, scored 21 runs and stole 12 bases... he finished second in runs, fourth in hits and fifth in stolen bases... that's why James was named the 1953 North Island Second Division Most Valuable Player.
The Union Heights Hackers led the NIRL Second Division Golden Glove Team with four players selected.
