Game Start: 2:05 PM
Ballpark: Connie Mack Stadium
Weather: 76 F, Partly Cloudy, with a 7 MPH wind blowing out to center
Attendance: 6,744

We finish the season with 583,406 in paid attendance.
Up form 530,869 last year and 489,729 in 2001.
We have outdrawn only New Orleans. They have 7 more home dates left to catch us, but that does not seem likely.

Top of the First:
Harold Evans grounds out to short. Bruce McArthur grounds out to 2nd. Larry Davis takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4... Terry Graham swings at a 3-2 pitch and flies out to left!

Bottom of the First:
Junior Danielson tries to bunt his way on, but is out, 1-3. Cal Doty walks on 4 pitches. Ray McDonald lines out to left. Doty steals 2nd! Marty Eades grounds out to 3rd, leaving yet another RBI on the bases. Our offensive woes are mostly caused by him not hitting with runners in scoring position and Ray McDonald not hitting at any time.... And also by our base runners getting thrown out all the time and not stealing when it is called for and trying to steal when it is not....

Bottom of the Third:
Danny Stewart takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4 and P Dale Gilchrist bunts him to 2nd. With 2 outs, Cal Doty swings at the first pitch and grounds our first hit of the game up the middle and Stewart scores! 1 to 0, Jays!

Bottom of the Fourth:
P Frank Lytle strikes out the side in order....

Top of the Fifth:

With 1 out, P Frank Lytle hits a home run to right... Tie Game: 1 to 1. His second career home run.

Through 5 innings, P Frank Lytle has given us 2 hits and stuck out 7....

Bottom of the Seventh:
Jack Washburn pokes our third hit of the game to right and steals 2nd. With 1 out, he steals 3rd. Bart Daw walks on 4 pitches. Danny Stewart grounds into a 4-6-3 double play.............................................. ........................

Bottom of the Eighth:
PH Mike Volkman (35-L) grounds one to 3rd, but Larry Davis throws the ball away for a 2 base error! With 1 out, Cal Doty swings at the first pitch and doubles to right and Volkman scores! 2 to 1, Jays! They walk Ray McDonald intentionally. Oh! Please, make them pay, Marty! Do you remember what an RBI was? He does not... He pops one up to shallow left, but Harold Evans muffs it and the bases are loaded with 1 out! Jack Washburn swings at the first pitch and pops out to right and the runners hold... Don Kern grounds out to short....

Top of the Ninth;
New Pitcher: Roger Wallace (28-R). Charlie Faber (32-R) is in to play 3rd and the Bullpen is warmed up. 6-7-8 up for the Hornets. Marty Derringer swings at a 3-0 pitch and grounds out to 1st, unassisted. Larry Griffin strikes out! PH John Hartz (38-R), the 2-time All-Star(01-02), who is 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI this series, lines a hit to left... PH Danny Pakan (27-L), the .429 hitter, who is 1 for 1 this series, swings at a 3-2 pitch and doubles to right center and Hartz scores... Tie Game: 2 to 2. Harold Evans flies out to center.

Bottom of the Ninth;
New Pitcher: Miguel Tejeda (25-R), their closer, who took the loss in extra innings yesterday by giving us a run in 1.2 innings. 7-8-9 up for us. Bart Daw takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. He steals 2nd! Danny Stewart grounds a hit up the middle and Daw heads home and THIS time he is thrown out by Terry Graham, who is hurt.... Harold Evans moves to center and Tom Morris (29-R) is in to play left. PH Dennis Brown (29-L), who scored the winning run yesterday, can knock in the winning run today. But they walk him intentionally. Junior Danielson grounds a hit to left and Stewart heads home and he is SAFE and THIS Ball Game Belongs to the Jays!!

Won - 3 to 2

We finish the season series with Charlotte 8-6.
Better than the 3-11 of last year and the 7-7 of 2001.

We had 6 hits and made no errors
Charlotte had 7 hits and made 3 errors

Dale Gilchrist went 8 innings, allowed 1 run, 5 hits, 1 home run, 3 walks, 1 HBP and struck out 4. 122 pitches.
RHP Roger Wallace (W 5-5, BS 4) went 1 inning, allowed 1 run, 2 hits and struck out 1.

Frank Lytle went 8 innings, have us 2 runs (1 earned), 4 hits, 4 walks (1 INT) and struck out 8. At bat, he hit a home run.
RHP Miguel Tejeda (L 6-12) got 1 out, gave us 1 run, 2 hits and 2 walk (1 INT).

LF Cal Doty had 2 hits with a double and a walk, stole a base and had 2 RBI. SS Bart Daw had a hit and 2 walks and stole his 40th base of the season. CF Danny Stewart had a hit and a walk and scored 2 runs, including the game winner. PH Dennis Brown was walked intentionally.

The Hornets announce that RF Terry Graham had a mild hamstring strain and should be fine in a day or two.
