i have made many posts on the subject and i am convinced that the whole philosophy of the process is wrong. a player should listen to every offer that you make up until the end of the season. what player in their right mind would tell you that he wants to stay with your team and negotiate "but you have only 2-3 offers to get it right and no hints"

i think the worry is that the owner will keep too many players but that can be totally controlled by simply having players opt to try the fa market.

the problem that i have is that when a player says he will negotiate then he should negotiate to the end. another idea that i have seen expressed is for the player or agent to give you an idea of where you are with an offer.if you offer 3 contracts and each time the player says "you are a long ways away" then i can see a player walking away. but if the answer is "we are getting close" then the player should hang in there and negotiate up until the end of the season
