Today is Marc Uhrich's 28th birthday!

RP Johnny Groom (25-R) and RP Dave Nini (25-L) were sent back to Daytona (A). RP Roger Wallace (28-R) and RP Justin Reddick (31-R) were reluctantly recalled.

We beat Hemmerling in May, but only scored 1 run on 2 hits and 2 walks with 8 strikeouts in 7 innings. Danny Coreano pitched a shutout for us.

Danny Stewart swings at the first pitch and grounds out to 2nd. Dennis Brown hits one a lot harder, but also grounds out to 2nd. Ray McDonald drives one to deep left, but Barry Magee makes a leaping catch...

Bottom of the First:
Ernie Patterson swings at the first pitch and lines out to right. Danny Hutchinson swings at the first pitch and grounds out to short. Ricky Perez swings at a 3-2 pitch and pops out to left! 1-2-3!

Bottom of the Second:
Herman Chance lines a hit to left center and Tom Howard beats out an infield hit... But the next three all make outs with 2 strikeouts!

We go 9 up, 9 down....

Bottom of the Third:
P Larry Hemmerling, the 2001 Silver Slugger, doubles to left... Ernie Patterson grounds a hit to center and Hemmerling heads home, but Danny Stewart throws him out! Patterson steals 2nd. But the next two make outs!

Top of the Fourth:
Danny Stewart walks on 4 pitches and Dennis Brown beats out an infield hit, our first base knock of the game. With 1 out, Marty Eades draws a walk to load the bases up. Jack Washburn strikes out on a 3-2 pitch.... Bert Swope strikes out looking on 3 pitches....

Top of the Fifth:

Junior Danielson tries to bunt his way aboard, but does not bunt it far enough and C Mike Day quickly pounces on it, but throws the ball away for a 2 base error! But the next three make outs...

Bottom of the Fifth:
With 2 outs, P Larry Hemmerling grounds a hit up the middle. Ernie Patterson swings at the first pitch and grounds another hit up the middle Danny Hutchinson swings at the first pitch and grounds yet another hit up the middle and P Hemmerling beats the throw home this time... 1 to 0, Juice. Ricky Perez grounds a fourth straight hit up the middle and Patterson heads home, but Danny Stewart throws him out! 9 hits now for the Juice...

Top of the Sixth:

P Larry Hemmerling strikes out our 2-3-4 hitters in order...

Bottom of the Sixth:
Herman Chance strikes out, but C Bert Swope lets the ball get away for a passed ball and Chance is safe at 1st.... The Bullpen gets up. Tom Howard beats out an infield hit... Mike Day grounds out slowly to short and the runners move up. With the infield in, Barry Magee grounds out to 2nd and the runners hold. We walk Pete Thompson intentionally to load the bases up with 2 outs.... I had left P Del Warwick in there to get that lefty out.... We would rather face the righty swinging Silver Slugger pitcher, who is 2 for 2 with a double today.... Well, it us your funeral, so here we go... P Hemmerling grounds out to 3rd! Through 6 innings, we have been outhit 10 to 1....

Bottom of the Seventh:
Ernie Patterson doubles to left... The Bullpen is up. Danny Hutchinson triples to right.... 2 to 0, Juice. Ricky Perez grounds a hit up the middle.... 3 to 0, Juice. Call to the Bullpen: 2-time All-Star Bill Grant (33-L), the only rested reliever. Don Kern (26-R) is in to catch in a double switch. P Grant gets the next three out with 2 strikeouts.

Top of the Eighth:

PH Cal Doty (26-L) swings at a 3-2 pitch and doubles to left center. Our second hit of the game. Don Kern lines a hit to right. That does it for P Larry Hemmerling. New Pitcher: Ray Hayes (28-R), their closer, who got 1 out and gave us a walk in Friday. Danny Stewart flies out to right and Doty and his bum ankle hold at 3rd. Dennis Brown grounds into a force at 2nd, 4-6, and Doty scores. 3 to 1, Juice.

Bottom of the Eight:
Barry Magee beats out an infield hit. Pete Thompson lines a hit to right center and Magee beats the throw to 3rd and Thompson takes 2nd... There is no one else; P Grant has to finish this inning. Ricky Tejada takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4 to load the bases up with no outs... All three of these batters are lefties.... Ernie Patterson swings at a 3-2 pitch and doubles over the 3rd base bag and 2 runs scores.. 5 to 1, Juice. Hit #16... Danny Hutchinson triples to right again... 7 to 1, Juice. Ricky Perez strikes out looking and we finally have an out. Herman Chance strikes out. Tom Howard grounds out to 3rd.

LHP Bill Grant went 2 innings, allowed 4 runs, 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out 4. 50 pitches.

Larry Hemmerling (W 8-5) went 7+ innings, gave us 1 run, 3 hits, 2 walks and struck out 8. At bat, he had 2 hits with a double and scored a run.
RHP Ray Hayes (SV 19) pitched 2 scoreless innings, gave us 2 hits, 1 walk and struck out 1.

3B Marty Eades had a hit and a walk. PH Mike Volkman drew a walk. 2B Junior Danielson hit a double. PH Cal Doty hit a double and scored our only run. C Don Kern had a hit in his only at bat.

For Orlando, 3B Ernie Patterson had 4 hits with 2 doubles, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI. SS Danny Hutchinson had 3 hits with 2 triples, tying the MLB record, scored a run and had 4 RBI. 2B Tom Howard had 3 hits.
