I woke up early this morning from a nightmare of innumerable home runs flying off the bats of the Mules as John Lombardi cheerfully lobbed up meatball pitch after meatball pitch and giggling as each ball disappeared over the right field wall..... I got dressed and drove to Daytona (A) and woke up Mark Uhrich (27-L) and told him to get dressed quickly because he was pitching today. He is the only lefty we have that is available to pitch. After I got back to the ballpark about 10:30 A.M, I hastily filled out the paperwork to send Lombardi back to Daytona (A) and add Uhrich to the roster and sent Pia to fetch a train ticket.

Won - 6 to 5
We had 8 hits and made no errors
Memphis had 12 hits and made 1 error
Marc Uhrich went 5.1 innings, allowed 5 runs, 10 hits, 1 walk and struck out 3. He threw a WP. At bat, he had a hit and an RBI. Would Lombardi have done any better? I doubt it...
RHP Johnny Groom (W 4-1, BS 1) got 2 outs, allowed 1 hit and 1 walk and both inherited runners to score....
LHP Dave Nini (H 3) went 2.1 scoreless innings, allowed 1 hit, 1 HBP and struck out 3.

Dave Whipple (L 3-3) went 5.1 innings, gave us 6 runs (4 earned), 6 hits, 1 home run, no walks, 2 HBP and struck out 4. He had a SH, the 13th of the month of August by an opposing pitcher, setting a new team record.... Now, THAT is not a record you do not hear about every day! It is also the 50th of the season and the team record is 55.
3B Marty Eades hit his 20th home run of the season, was hit by a pitch and scored 2 runs. 1B Jack Washburn had 2 hits, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. SS Bart Daw had a hit, scored a run and had 2 RBI. PH Cal Doty was walked intentionally.
The Mules announced that RP Jack Wade, injured during the game, had an arthritic elbow and would be shut down for the season. They now have 3 closers on the DL, all out for the year.
