We sent 1B Jack Washburn (21-L) to Daytona (A) for more seasoning and called up C Jim Hess (33-R).
The Birmingham Barons are here to play a short 2 game set. They won 2 of 3 against New Orleans at home over the weekend. We are 5-4 against them on the season and split a pair of games the 1st time they visited us, May 26-27. They lead the League in scoring with 4.69 runs per game (Jacksonville up to #14 with 3.71). They have only scored 104 more runs than we have.... The Barons are 14th in fewest runs allowed with 4.47 per game (Jacksonville is #10 with 4.13). They lead the League with 99 HR allowed and we are 3rd with 82. Their run differential is +21 and ours is -41.

Cal Doty grounds one to 3rd, but Gerald Young makes a bad throw for an error! Doty steals 2nd! Dennis Brown swings at a 3-2 pitch and grounds out to 2nd and Doty goes to 3rd. Ray McDonald flies out to left and Doty tags up and scores. Tie Game: 1 to 1! Marty Eades swings at a 3-2 pitch and hits a monster home run to center! 462 ft! 2 to 1, Jays! Ed Diskin grounds out to 2nd.
Bottom of the Second:
Bart Daw takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4 and steals 2nd! With 2 outs, P Jim Baucom grounds a hit to left and Daw scores! 3 to 1, Jays! Last year, P Baucom hit .137 and struck out in over half of his at bats and did not draw a walk. This year, he is now hitting .273 with 3 walks and only 7 strikeouts in 44 AB!
Bottom of the Third:
With 1 out, Ray McDonald pops one up to shallow left that should be caught easily, but no one does and he has a hit! He steals 2nd! Marty Eades pokes a hit to center and McDonald heads home, but gets thrown out by Sergio Acevedo... Eades takes 2nd on the throw. Ed Diskin hits a home run to left that JUST clears the fence!! 5 to 1, Jays!
Top of the Fourth:
With 2 outs, Gerald Young grounds a hit to left and Cal Doty overruns the ball for an error... Ken Kelly grounds a hit up the middle and Young beats the throw home... 5 to 2, Jays.
