Game Start: 7:05 PM
Ballpark: Providence Stadium
Weather: 74 F, Partly Cloudy, with a 9 MPH wind blowing in from right
Attendance: 10,320

Top of the First:
Charlie Faber swings at the first pitch and flies out to deep center. Bart Daw strikes out on 3 pitches... Dave Thompson swings at the first pitch and bloops a hit to right. Marty Eades, our hope for runs today, swings at the first pitch and pops out to center...

Bottom of the First:
Ken Yockey strikes out on 3 pitches! Kim Byrne swings at the first pitch and bloops a hit to right... Gus Milam grounds into a 6-4-3 double play!!

Top of the Second:

Ray McDonald bloops a hit to left and goes to 2nd on a wild pitch. With 1 out, he goes to 3rd on a ground out and then scores on another wild pitch! 1 to 0, Jays!

Bottom of the Second:
Billy Brown takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4... With 1 out, Tom Spiess grounds out to 1st, 3-1, Dave Thompson making a nice play, and Brown goes to 2nd. Juan Duarte, he of the blurred vision, grounds a hit to left and Brown scores... Tie Game: 1 to 1.

Bottom of the Third:

P Juan Estrada, a .128 hitter, swings at the first pitch and doubles to right center.... With 1 out, Kim Byrne doubles to right center and P Estrada scores... 2 to 1, Steamrollers. Their #3 and #4 hitters make outs.

Bottom of the Fourth:

Bottom of the Sixth:
Gus Milam doubles to right.... The Bullpen gets up. By the way, even though it looks like P Jim Baucom is taking all the abuse in this game, we have outhit them. But whenever we needed a hit with 2 outs, we struck out... Billy Brown grounds out to 2nd and Milam goes to 3rd. We walk Israel Villegas intentionally. Tom Spiess obliges with a 4-6-3 double play!!

New Pitcher: Jim Gibson (31-R), their closer, who got the Save on Tuesday with a scoreless inning. 8-9-1 up for us. PH Mike Volkman (35-L) grounds one to the hole on the left side, but new SS Andy Povich (27-L) makes a diving stop and throws him out... PH Dennis Brown (29-L) flies out to deep right... PH Jack Washburn (21-L) strikes out....

Lost - 3 to 2

We finish the season series with Providence 3-5.
The same as last year, but better than when we went 0-8 in 2001.

We had 10 hits and made no errors
Providence had 6 hits and made no errors

Jim Baucom (L 9-5) went 6 innings, allowed 3 runs, 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5.
LHP Hal Bradford pitched 2 perfect innings.

Juan Estrada (W 9-7) went 8 innings, gave us 2 runs, 10 hits, 1 walk and struck out 7. He threw 2 WP. At bat, he hit a double and scored a run. Someday lefties are going to quake in fear of our lineup, but right now, they just giggle at us...
RHP Jim Gibson (SV 18) pitched a perfect 9th with 1 strikeout.

SS Bart Daw had 2 hits, stole a base and scored a run. 1B Dave Thompson had 3 hits and an RBI. RF Ray McDonald had 2 hits, stole a base and scored a run. C Don Kern hit a double. CF Gary McKellar hit a double and was walked intentionally.
