Jacksonville Jays (36-43 .456 13 GB in 6th place in the Southern Division)

ORL: Bob Carroll (27-R) (2-7 6.04 79 IP, 97 H, 5 HR, 40 BB, 38 SO) vs.

We faced Carroll in May and scored 7 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks with 3 strikeouts in 3.1 innings, be he escaped with a no decision and we lost the game.

Warwick has had two nearly identical lines in the last two games, both wins. Last time out, he allowed 1 run on 7 hits and 3 walks with 3 strikeouts in 8 innings. The time before was the same, but he walked 2 and struck out 2. He has 4 straight games where he has not allowed more that 2 runs and 7 straight where he has not allowed more than 3.

Game Start: 2:05 PM
Ballpark: Connie Mack Stadium
Weather: 76 F, Overcast, with a 9 MPH wind blowing out to right
Attendance: 9,371

Top of the First:
Ernie Patterson lines out to left. Danny Hutchinson grounds a hit to left. Herman Chance swings at the first pitch and pops out to center. Tom Howard lines a hit to right and Hutchinson heads to 3rd, but Ray McDonald throws him out! 12 assists and we are not even at the half way point of the season!

Bottom of the First:
Cal Doty flies out to left. Danny Stewart grounds out to 3rd. Ray McDonald grounds out to 1st, 3-1..... I have a bad feeling.... We are going to get shut out by a crappy pitcher today...

Top of the Third:
Ricky Tejeda grounds a hit to right and gets bunted to 2nd by P Bob Carroll. Ernie Patterson lines a hit to left center and Tejeda scores... 1 to 0, Juice. Patterson tries to steal 2nd, but C Bert Swope throws him out!

Top of the Fourth:
With 1 out, Tom Howard hits a home run to left center... 2 to 0, Juice.

Through 5 innings, we have 2 hits off the pitcher with the 6.04 ERA....

Top of the Sixth:
Gil Weaver triples to right... The Bullpen gets up. It starts to rain... Pete Thompson flies out to center and Weaver tags up and scores... 3 to 0, Juice.

Bottom of the Sixth:
Bert Swope doubles to left! PH Dennis Brown (29-L) is sent up and then the rain gets heavy and the umpires stop play. 38 minutes later, Brown beats out an infield hit. A wild pitch scores Swope! 3 to 1, Juice. Cal Doty swings at a 3-2 pitch and misses... pitiful... Third strikeout of the game today for P Bob Carroll and two have been by Doty... The next two make outs...

Bottom of the Seventh:
Marty Eades grounds a hit up the middle. Jack Washburn takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. Only the second walk of the game by P Bob Carroll, who led the League in 2001.... Ed Diskin grounds out to 1st, 3-1, and the runners move up. Bart Daw draws a walk to load the bases up. Bert Swope grounds into a force at home, 5-2.... PH Mike Volkman (35-L) grounds out to the pitcher.... Just the worst bunch of chits that ever were....

Bottom of the Ninth:
New Pitcher: Darrell Lewis (35-R), who made his season debut yesterday with a perfect inning. 6-7-8 up for us. Ed Diskin grounds a hit to left. Bart Daw grounds into a force at 2nd, 5-4. Bert Swope grounds out to 2nd, 4-3, and Daw goes to 2nd. PH Dave Thompson (27-R) grounds out to short... There are very few fellas on this team that I like...

RHP Johnny Groom went 1 scoreless inning and allowed 1 hit.
