Top of the First:
Bart Daw grounds out to 1st, unassisted. Gary McKellar strikes out... Dave Thompson beats out an infield hit. Marty Eades lines a hit to right and Thompson goes to 3rd. Ed Diskin lines out to center...
Bottom of the First:
Jim Beard strikes out! Javier Perez grounds out to 3rd. Frank Bates swings at a 3-2 pitch and lines out to deep center! 1-2-3!
Top of the Second:
With 1 out, Cal Doty grounds a hit up the middle and goes to 2nd on a ground out. P Dale Gilchrist pokes a hit to center and Doty scores! 1 to 0, Jays!
Top of the Fifth:
Don Kern draws a walk and P Dale Gilchrist bunts him to 2nd. With 2 outs, Gary McKellar takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. Dave Thompson swings at the first pitch and grounds a hit to left and Kern beats the throw home, but is hurt.... 2 to 0, Jays! Trainer Trudy pronounces him fit to keep playing, though!
Bottom of the Fifth:
P Dale Gilchrist walks the first two batters, Lee Dean and Dave Bess... Dick Rothwell tries to bunt the runners up, but we get the force at 3rd, 1-6! With 2 outs, P David Lucero beats out an infield hit to load the bases up... Do you remember me lamenting the way opposing pitchers were hitting with 2 outs and runners in scoring position in our first two seasons? Well, I decided to keep track of it this year and that was the first such hit of the season. Opposing pitchers are now 1 for 18 (.056) with 2 outs and runners in scoring position. Jim Beard lines a hit to left and 2 runs score... Tie Game: 2 to 2. Javier Perez drives one to deep center, but Gary McKellar makes a leaping catch near the warning track!
Top of the Eighth:
Gary McKellar doubles to right! With 1 out, they walk Marty Eades intentionally. The next two make outs...
Bottom of the Eighth:
The Bullpen is ready. Jim Beard takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4.... Call to the Bullpen: Dave Nini (25-L). Beard steals 2nd... Javier Perez lines a hit to right and Beard beats the throw home... 3 to 2, Sycamores. Why do we always end up with these lefties that cannot get lefties out? Lefties are now hitting .286 (6 for 21) versus Nini and righties are hitting .132 (5 for 38). Frank Bates grounds into a 4-6-3 double play!! 5 for 39!
Top of the Ninth:
New Pitcher: Benny Martineau (31-L), their All-Star and Fireman Trophy winning closer, who pitched a scoreless inning yesterday. Cal Doty beats out an infield hit! PH Charlie Faber (32-R) bunts Doty to 2nd. PH Leander Gooding (32-R) strikes out on 3 pitches... Bart Daw flies out to deep left...
