That sounds like something is going wrong with the save process itself - the missing date when you try to reload the file suggests that the save isn't completing properly, and there's likely damage to some files that's causing the crash.
Seeing a trace file may help me figure out exactly where things are going wrong, so let's try that: on the start screen, go to Settings, then Troubleshooting, and click on Enable debug trace. Then go back to the start screen and create a new game, and once it's finished setting up, exit the game and let it save. Then go to your \Documents\Out of the Park Developments\Franchise Hockey Manager 6\debug folder; there should be a file named fhm_trace.txt in there. Open that file and copy the contents into a post here, and I'll have a look at it.
