There is baseball knowledge, and then there is game engine knowledge. The engine is a very good one, generally speaking, so for the most part that baseball knowledge translates well (IMO). But there are some exceptions. Notably, the "contact" rating you see (which predicts batting average) in the game is actually an amalgam of 3 different sub-ratings. Those being AvoidK (visible), Power (visible) and BABIP (hidden). So players with a "good" contact rating, but who got most of that contact from POWER instead of the other two, tend to struggle as you rise up. This is due to league normalization, which dictates that leaguewide statistics at the end of the season will come out vaguely resembling real life year 2010. This effectively puts a (soft) cap on the number of homers you hit, hence, the players whose "contact" comes from POWER get boned. Because the higher up you go, the more power everyone has.
