I do know this.
Bonds has below average avoid K levels from left side...which is why I platooned him with Delahanty..who has below average avoid K levels himself but seems to perform very well at Gold and Diamond for me.
Bonds has very good, to excellent contact ratings, and has great eye/discipline from both sides.
Same for Williams, and Schmidt is above average across the board, with excellent contact/avoid K levels from left side, and good contact/avoid K levels from right.
Still, I just cannot understand why they perform so poorly, with the absolute biggest surprise is Schmidt's error totals season in, and season out.
Last year, in PT20, even the very best third basemen were just as feeble offensively, and I grabbed up the 97 Brooks Robinson around mid-December, and he was below average defensively, so below that I eventually replaced him with Gil McDougald who out him at every turn and was so far superior defensively, it would be like comparing Gary Sanchez today, and Bench at his peak.
Again...the biggest surprises for me this year.
I played D1 in college, where I played with, and against major leaguers. In the summer of 77, I was a NY Daily News All-Metro area SS, and played in a summer long nationwide tournament with two current HOF'ers.
This does NOT make me a baseball savant, but I do have some high level experience playing the game. This is why I think I understand that you have to evaluate a players ratings, and determine how he fits with your pitching staff, and ballpark.
Again, I made those decisions with these players, and I understand this is an imperfect simulation. Just extremely surprised at these numbers and results.
