P Freeman Cain does not appear to be overly tough on lefties, so we are letting rookie Jack Washburn start.

Game Start: 7:05 PM
Ballpark: Connie Mack Stadium
Weather: 83 F, Clear Skies, with an 8 MPH wind blowing out to right
Attendance: 7,786

Top of the First:
Mike Fox strikes out on 3 pitches! Chuck Kellogg flies out to center. Robbie McFarland takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4.... Roy Zimdahl swings at a 3-2 pitch and pops out to short!

Bottom of the First:
Cal Doty grounds out to 2nd. Leander Gooding grounds out to 2nd. Glen Lewis grounds out to 1st, unassisted...

We go 9 up, 9 down...

Top of the Fourth:
Chuck Kellogg lines the first hit of the game for either team to left. Robbie McFarland lines a hit to left. With 1 out, Charlie Mackey walks on 4 pitches to load the bases up. Already 3 walks by P Dale Gilchrist... Eric Drake flies out to deep center and Kellogg tags up and scores. 1 to 0, Whalers. Mike Tyra lines a hit to center and McFarland scores... 2 to 0, Whalers. Fellas batting under .200 never go hitless against the Jays...

Bottom of the Fourth:
With 1 out, Leander Gooding grounds our first hit of the game to left. Glen Lewis swings at a 3-2 pitch and lines a hit to right center and Gooding goes to 3rd. Marty Eades flies out to deep center and Gooding tags up and trots home. 2 to 1, Whalers.

Top of the Fifth:
The Whalers go down in order on 3 pitches!

Bottom of the Fifth:
Bert Swope swings at the first pitch and grounds one to short, but Raul Parez boots it! Jack Washburn bunts Swope to 2nd. Having your #7 hitter bunt for the 8th and 9th hitter to drive in a run does not seem very bright.... Especially when he can hit home runs... With 2 outs, P Dale Gilchrist grounds an 0-2 pitch up the middle for a hit and Swope beats the throw home! Tie Game: 2 to 2! What do I know of baseball tactics?

Bottom of the Eighth:
PH Ed Diskin (38-R) grounds one to 3rd, but Eric Drake boots it! Cal Doty tries to bunt the runner up, but they get the force at 2nd, 1-6. Doty steals 2nd. They walk Leander Gooding intentionally, but then a passed ball moves the runners up! Glen Lewis lines a hit to left and both runners score!! 4 to 2, Jays!

Top of the Ninth:
New Pitcher: Bill Grant (31-L). Tony Becerra (33-L) is in to play 1st, Charlie Faber (31-R) is in to play 3rd and Frank Wendell (34-R) is in to play left. 5-6-7 up for the Whalers. Charlie Mackey takes a 3-2 pitch for strike three! Eric Drake triples to right... The Bullpen hops up again.... Mike Tyra pops out to center and the runner holds. PH Mike Moen (31-R), their .353 hitting All-Star catcher, pops out to left and THIS Ball Game Belongs to the Jays!
