The Hartford Whalers are here to play a 4 game series through the weekend. They just lost a pair of games at home to Buffalo. We were 4-4 against them last season. They are 11th in scoring with 3.98 runs per game (Jacksonville is #12 with 3.81). They have scored 2 more runs than us, but have also played 2 fewer games. The Whalers are 14th in fewest runs allowed with 4.46 per game (Jacksonville is #8 with 4.03). Their run differential is -27 and ours is -13.

Eric Drake doubles to right center... Mike Fox grounds out to 1st, 3-1, and Drake goes to 3rd. Roy Zimdahl walks... Robbie McFarland lines a hit to left and Drake scores... 1 to 0, Whalers. Mike Moen grounds a double down the left field line and Zimdahl scores... 2 to 0, Whalers. Charlie Mackey flies out to right and McFarland tags up, but Glen Lewis throws him out!!

Bottom of the First:
Cal Doty pops out to short. Leander Gooding swings at a 3-2 pitch and grounds out to 2nd. Glen Lewis swings at a 3-2 pitch and misses...

Bottom of the Fourth:
Leander Gooding and Glen Lewis lead off with back to back hits and we have runners at the corners with no outs. Marty Eades clears the bases with a double to right and ends up on 3rd!! Tie Game: 2 to 2. Brian Porter flies out to left and Eades tags up, but Roy Zimdahl throws him out...

Bottom of the Fifth:
Jack Washburn pokes a hit to right center. He takes off for 2nd and they have a pitchout on, but he is safe anyway! Bart Daw doubles to left and Washburn scores! 3 to 2, Jays! Daw is hitting a LOT better than we expected him to! He tries to steal 3rd, but gets thrown out... With 2 outs, Cal Doty takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4 and steals 2nd. Leander Gooding grounds a hit up the middle and Doty heads home.....Safe! 4 to 2, Jays!

Bottom of the Sixth:
Marty Eades leads off with a double to right! His second double today and fourth in the last 3 games since coming off the DL! They walk Brian Porter intentionally. Bert Swope grounds into a 3-6-3 double play...

Top of the Ninth:
P Danny Coreano is at 95 pitches. He has retired 20 batters in a row! Charlie Faber (31-R) is in to play 3rd and Frank Wendell (34-R) is in to play center and Cal Doty moves to left. 1B Tony Becerra (33-L) and RF Rob Worms (29-R) entered the game earlier. The Bullpen is ready. 2-3-4 up for the Whalers. Mike Fox flies out to left. Roy Zimdahl hits a home run to right center... 4 to 3, Jays. The streak ends at 21 batters.... I was hoping it would in with a single or a walk... PH Tom McConnell (33-R), 4 for 15 (.267) with a double, 2 triples and 4 walks and a 1.000 OPS is sent up. Call to the Bullpen: Tug Jackson (33-R). McDonnell grounds out to 3rd! PH Joel Yost (22-L), a rookie who is 4 for 21 (.190) is sent up. Call to the Bullpen: Bill Grant (31-L). Yost is left in to hit and he swings at the first pitch and lines a hit to center... Charlie Mackey lines a 2-2 pitch to left center for a hit and Yost beats the throw to 3rd and Mackey takes 2nd.... PH Diego Yanes (35-L), 4 for 25 (.160) on the season, strikes out and THIS Ball Game Belongs to the Jays!

Danny Coreano (W 3-7) went 8.1 innings, allowed 3 runs, 5 hits, 1 home run, 1 walk and struck out 4. He retired 21 straight batters at one point. Which matches his 0 for 21 as a hitter! His 3rd straight good outing and 2nd straight win!
RHP Tug Jackson (H 4) faced 1 batter and retired him.
LHP Bill Grant (SV 6) got 1 out, allowed 2 hits and struck out 1.

Bill Wilson (L 6-4) went 6.2 innings, gave us 4 runs, 8 hits, 4 walks (1 INT) and struck out 4.

CF/LF Cal Doty drew 2 walks, stole a base and scored a run. 2B Leander Gooding had 2 hits, scored a run and had an RBI. 3B Marty Eades hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI. LF Brian Porter had a hit and was walked intentionally. RF Rob Worms drew a walk and stole a base in his only trip to the plate. SS Bart Daw hit a double and had an RBI.
