Yes, Spring Training Works!
I have this young outfielder who's been working his way up the chain. I see a kid who is a great athlete with all of the skills (check out his speed). He probably won't be an All Star, I see a guy who will be a solid 5th outfielder.
While he is a great athlete he was missing one thing, experience in LF. He had no rating at all prior to Spring Training. But I figure if he can play RF, he can play LF. I've done it, it's not a hard transition. My starting left fielder is a stud, I know what he can do. So I started Lizarraga in LF for the final two weeks of the Spring and as you can see he went from nothing to 28 in LF in a short amount of time. He won't make the team out of Spring Training because I'm set with my outfielders, but I figure with more time in LF in AAA, and also some time in CF, he'll easily be able to play all three outfield positions and be ready to be the guy I'll want him to be.
I've seen it posted many times here, people ask if guys can learn new positions. They can if they have the attributes necessary for that position. If I tried this with a very slow guy with poor outfield skills, I doubt he'd develop as fast if at all. Be wise with who want to learn a new position, use common sense.
(BTW, if you're looking at his stats, "R+" is the Rookie League I made that's halfway between the Florida and Arizona leagues and the SSA leagues)
