Today is Barry Finney's 27th birthday!
Another left going against us, so we have to wait for the first Major League start of 1B Jack Washburn (20-L). Hopefully, we can get him in the game today.
Jacksonville Jays (18-29 .383 11 GB in 7th place in the Southern Division) at
Buffalo Bombers (24-23 .511 3 GB tied for 5th place in the Northern Division)
JAX: Ernesto Noyola (22-R) (2-1 5.55 ERA 24.1 IP, 33 H, 5 HR, 12 BB, 13 SO) Rookie vs.
BUF: Matt Nielson (32-L) (4-3 4.01 ERA 60.2 IP, 56 H, 6 HR, 20 BB, 30 SO)
Noyola lost his last start with 5 runs allowed on 8 hits, 3 home runs and 1 walk with no strikeouts in 5 innings. It was his first loss of the season, but if he gets hammered today, which is very likely, he will head to Daytona (A) for more seasoning...
Nielson was 12-11 with a 3.42 ERA in 218.2 IP last year. He was 2-0 in 2 starts against us with a 2.40 ERA. 15 IP, 18 H, 0 HR, 3 BB, 5 SO.

Game Start: 7:05 PM
Ballpark: Sportsman's Park
Weather: 57 F, Partly Cloudy, with an 12 MPH wind blowing out to center
Attendance: 11,613
That wind carries a whiff of the doom of Ernesto Noyola....
Top of the First:
Leander Gooding flies out to deep center. Bart Daw strikes out... Ed Diskin swings at the first pitch and grounds out to short...
Bottom of the First:
Dan Faust pops out to 2nd. Duane Keepers flies out to right. Ivan Moreno grounds out to 3rd! 1-2-3!
Top of the Second:
With 1 out, Bert Swope hits a home run to center! 1 to 0, Jays! With 2 outs, Glen Lewis hits a home run to right! 2 to 0, Jays!
Bottom of the Second:
Mickey Lynn takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4... Frank Cohen grounds one to 3rd, but Charlie Faber boots it... Tom Hamm takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4 to load the bases up with no outs... Dave Lloyd grounds into a 6-4-3 double play and Lynn scores and Cohen goes to 3rd. 2 to 1, Jays. Dick Lyles flies out to right!
Bottom of the Third:
P Matt Nielson lines a hit to left... Dan Faust bunts into a force at 2nd, 1-6, and then tries to steal, but we have a pitchout on and C Bert Swope throws him out! Duane Keepers triples to right... Ivan Moreno lines a hit to right and Keepers scores... Tie Game: 2 to 2.
Top of the Fourth:
With 2 outs, Glen Lewis grounds a hit up the middle. Charlie Faber lines a hit to left. P Ernesto Noyola lines a hit to left and Lewis scores! 3 to 2, Jays!
Bottom of the Fourth:
Frank Cohen grounds a double over the 3rd base bag... Tom Hamm takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4.... The Bullpen gets up. Dave Lloyd bunts the runners up. We walk Dick Lyles intentionally to load the bases up with 1 out. P Matt Nielson strikes out on 3 pitches. Dan Faust lines a hit to left and 2 runs score.... 4 to 3, Bombers.
Top of the Fifth:
Bart Daw leads off with a walk and steals 2nd. Ed Diskin swings at a 3-2 pitch and grounds a hit to left and Daw heads home..... The throw by Mickey Lynn is to the backstop for an error! Tie Game: 4 to 4! With 2 outs, Rob Worms doubles to left and Diskin scores! 5 to 4, Jays! That does it for P Matt Nielson. New Pitcher: Keith Casebolt (24-L), a rookie with a 3.12 ERA in 8.2 IP with 7 BB. Glen Lewis lines one right to CF Tom Hamm, but it hits off the heel of his glove for a 2 base error and Worms scores! 6 to 4, Jays!
Bottom of the Fifth:
Ivan Moreno leads off with a home run to right center... 6 to 5, Jays. The Bullpen gets up... With 1 out, Frank Cohen grounds a hit to left. A wild pitch sends him to 2nd and a ground ball out sends him to 3rd. Dave Lloyd gets utterly fooled on a 1-1 pitch but pops it just over the 2nd baseman for a hit and Cohen scores... Tie Game: 6 to 6. Pia! A train ticket!
Top of the Sixth:
Leander Gooding walks and Bart Daw bunts him to 2nd. When runs are flowing as freely as they are today, why the heck are we bunting? With 2 outs, Brian Porter lines a hit to left center and Gooding scores! 7 to 6, Jays! It is the sixth straight half inning that a team has scored...
In the bottom of the Sixth, we hold them scoreless!
Top of the Seventh:
New Pitcher: Dale Kumpf (31-R), with a 4.58 ERA in 19.2 IP. With 1 out, Glen Lewis swings at the first pitch and hits a double to left. PH Jack Washburn (20-L) is sent up to make his Major League debut. He swings at a 2-1 pitch and hits it 460 ft. to dead center for a home run!! 9 to 6, Jays! Washburn will stay in the game to play 1st and Ed Diskin will move to 3rd.
