1986 STANLEY CUP FINAL: GAME 1 TO GAME 4
The 1986 Stanley Cup Finals rematch is underway, as Hartford wins home ice advantage this time. If there's hope to beat the three-peat Oilers, it's in our superior depth. I've attached the lines for Edmonton, and it looks like they are really lacking outside of their top lines. Without further ado, here's how the first 4 games played out:
Game 1: EDM 0 @ HAR 4
The Whalers make a statement early, as Joe Mullen scores 2 goals and Mike Liut notches a 34 save shutout for the win.
Game 2: EDM 1 @ HAR 5
Are we rolling over the vaunted Oilers? Hartford continues its assault on the Cup at home ice, with a crushing victory. Dave Babych notched 4 points to pick up the 1st Star.
Game 3: HAR 1 @ EDM 2
We peppered Grant Fuhr with 40 shots, but he shut the door to keep the Oilers alive in Edmonton. Gretzky finally scored after being shutdown in the first 2 games by the only team capable of doing so.
Game 4: HAR 2 @ EDM 4
Uh-oh, we've got a series. "Home team wins" is the common thread of the 1986 Stanley Cup Finals so far. Grant Fuhr again outplayed his counterpart Mike Liut, as the Oilers win despite being outshot 39-24.
It's all tied going back to Hartford! Will the home ice advantage trend continue? Or can someone buck the trend and win in 6? It's getting intense... hopefully we didn't miss the opportunity to close them out.
