You will not lose your job when a team moves. The 1979 expansion is a special case because the entire WHA shuts down, and the 4 new NHL teams are considered new entities, separate from the WHA versions of the teams.

The 1979 expansion process does allow those teams to retain the NHL rights to any of their WHA players whose NHL rights were not already owned (as well as some Birmingham and Cincinnati players), which is a reasonable approximation of what actually happened; if you check their protected lists on July 1, you'll see those players.
