The AI logic is to look at the starter and see that he is labeled as a "follower". It then looks to see if there is an available "Opener" that is rested. If there is, the Opener will start the game and the follower will come in after. If there is no rested Opener than the "Starter" starts.

That is the way things work when *Not* using 7-day lineups at least so it would make sense to me that it would go that way with the 7-day lineups as well.

Depending on when the game is within your week you could also bench the Opener for a day or two to make sure that he is available.
Okay. I will try that for the upcoming sim. I did make sure to bench one of the two guys I had set as opener to make sure he would be able to pitch (the guy I put as the starter in 7 day lineups).
