Back to reality. We ran into the buzzsaw that were the 19-9
Red Sox this month, followed by the
Athletics... seven-game losing streak and four games back in the Wild Card. Yes, it is not over, but a playoff appearance is a bonus right now.
Speaking about that, the bottom line is, our MLB roster has dropped another bit of the starters ERA and bullpen ERA, and there have been some really good performances by our young starters. Hitting wise, we still have some young bats that are on a good development path. Looking back at the preseason prediction by the way...
Cooper is hitting for a solid .285 clip but is nowhere near a top 10 hitter...
Now, about reinforcements... AAA Tacoma is 81-51 and playoff-bound... let the kids have some fun. Win a title. Have them develop in AAA, have the big kids develop in the majors. They will get the call once the AAA playoff run is done.
Speaking of starters,
Hector Noesi is 13-6 2.79 138K in 26 starts in AAA... es mentioned before, he is a carbon copy of
Ramirez and we still have
Walker in AAA... we may look to find a suitor for him in the offseason, with this performance, he may have peak trade value right now.
As for
deGrom... there has been some work with his agent, our owner, myself, and our accountant. We are currently negotiating an 8y/$96M contract... if we get that one done, we have our co-ace locked up... that $29M - $32.5M escalating contract of
Hernandez is hurting us here... hopefully, our owner decides to open his pockets after the first .500+ season season since 2009... else, we have to find a way to cut money someday...
And,
Chris Taylor is expected to return in a week, which means we will have a full month of him before the end of the season... remember, we will play until October 9th because I forgot to generate a fictional schedule to get that Japan series out of the system...
Where we have a pretty big hole... is the designated hitter spot... we really miss
Moss, or at least his production here.
Shaffer is batting .219 against LHP, and
Peguero is batting .242 against RHP... at least with 8 home runs. Good thing we drafted a home run machine in the first round right?
Right,
Matt Chapman in single-A: .338/.399/.724 31 home runs, 71 RBI`s in 72 games. Jikes, we have a power hitter.
Now, onto September baseball. 35 games to go. No expectations, just fun, and development.
