I have lots to say on this subject but I won't get into it all now.
I will say that "Paper Tiger Playmakers" aren't as good as they look from the role ratings. What I mean is that if you have an 18 rated playmaker who's good at passing and all of that, but has awful DEF/PHY attributes, then he'll probably not be a great option overall.
Honestly a pretty good way to setup a team is to go with the old 90s EA Sports line designations -- 2 Scoring Lines, and 2 Checking Lines. Have lines 3 and 4 be entirely focused on defense, and lines 1 and 2 focused only on putting the puck in the net. Defensemen as good as you can get. Simple, but effective.
