On the next to last day of the 1977 regular season, Houston superstar center fielder Lazaro Lowndes has established a new single season high for hits with 239.
Many WPK insiders consider Lowndes the most likely player in the league to reach the 3,000 career hit mark first (unless the 34-year old Felix Lopez, who is looking injury prone at this stage of his career, can manage to scratch out the 355 hits he still needs to get there before then.)
