I had a thought that this happens when you are using the same roster for all 3 tournament slots. I've found that if a make change to one it will affect all 3 even if they are already in progress. (but not always, of course). I thought it chooses the #5 starter for the first game, because the #5 starter is due to start the next game in a different tourney. (again, not always, and maybe just a coincidence).
