May 16 - RF Jimmy Dixon (29-L) of New Orleans had 3 hits with a triple and a home run and 5 RBI at Birmingham, but the Pelicans lost, 8 to 7. The Pelicans lost 1B Jerry Rafanello (30-S), the most recent Player of the Week, for 3 months with a dislocated shoulder. He was batting .399 in 163 AB with 5 HR and 27 RBI with 4 SO.
May 17 - Columbus lost their closer, Danny Pineda (33-L) for 2-3 months to elbow tendinitis. He was 2-2 with 4 SV and a 1.77 ERA in 20.1 IP.
May 17 - Rookie Dennis Farmer (23-R) of New Orleans pitched a 5 hit shutout at home versus Charlotte. he walked 4 and struck out 4. At bat, he had a hit. He is now 3-0 with a 2.61 ERA in 5 starts. The Pelicans won, 1 to 0, and only had 5 hits themselves.
May 18 - Columbus won at home versus Indianapolis, 5 to 4, in 18 innings. 3B Mike Brewer (38-R) had 5 hits with a double and scored a run.
May 20 - Rick Cox (30-R) of Charlotte pitched a 4 hit shutout at New Orleans. He walked 3 and struck out 3. At bat, he hit a double and scored the only run of the game. He is now 5-1 with a 1.62 ERA in 10 starts. The Hornets won, 1 to 0.
