Jacksonville Jays (10-26 .278 11 GB in 8th (last) place in the Southern Division) at
Richmond Robins (21-15 .583 0 GA tied for 1st place in the Northern Division)

JAX: Victor Espinoza (36-R) (2-3 1.69 ERA 48 IP, 40 H, 2 HR, 10 BB, 31 SO) vs.
RICH: Greg Sinclair (23-R) (3-3 3.48 ERA 51.2 IP, 51 H, 3 HR, 21 BB, 25 SO) Rookie

Espinoza's last start was 8 days ago when he pitched 4 shutout innings, but had to leave with forearm stiffness. I hope we get a trade offer for him before he gets injured for the rest of the season....

We have not faced Sinclair before. After a run of 6 strong outings in a row, Sinclair gave up 7 runs on 10 hits and 5 walks in 6.1 IP last time out in a loss.

Game Start: 7:05 PM
Ballpark: Griffith Stadium
Weather: 67 F, Clear Skies, with a 9 MPH wind blowing left to right
Attendance: 14,331

Top of the First:
Mike Volkman draws a leadoff walk! Joe Roberts lines a hit to center and Volkman beats the throw to 3rd! Brian Porter swings at the first pitch and grounds a hit to left and Volkman scores! 1 to 0, Jays! Dennis Brown grounds into a force at 2nd, 4-6, and Roberts goes to 3rd. Tony Becerra takes a 3-2 pitch for strike three... Ed Diskin grounds out to 2nd.

Bottom of the First:
Steve Shauer flies out to deep center. Skip Dunkin grounds out to 1st, 3-1. Andres Borges walks on 4 pitches... Andy Schaeffer swings at a 3-2 pitch and misses!

Top of the Second:

Junior Danielson walks on 4 pitches. He steals 2nd and goes to 3rd when C Marty Siracusa throws the ball away! Garrett Bender lines a hit to center and Danielson scores! 2 to 0, Jays! P Victor Espinoza bunts Bender to 2nd. Mike Volkman grounds a hit to left. Joe Roberts grounds one to 3rd, but Skip Dunkin boots it and Bender scores! 3 to 0, Jays! The next two make outs...

Top of the Third:

Tony Becerra doubles over the center fielder's head! Ed Diskin flies out to deep right and Becerra scoots over to 3rd. With the infield in, Junior Danielson grounds out to short and Becerra stays put. Garrett Bender beats out an infield hit and Becerra scores! 4 to 0, Jays!

Bottom of the Third:

With 1 out, Steve Shauer grounds a hit up the middle. Skip Dunkin triples to center and Shauer scores... 4 to 1, Jays. Andres Borges flies out to right and Dunkin tags up and gets thrown out at home by Dennis Brown!

Top of the Fifth:
Dennis Brown bloops a hit to left. With 1 out, Ed Diskin grounds a hit to left. Junior Danielson grounds one to 3rd, but Skip Dunkin boots it for his second error today. He had 4 on the season before today. Garrett Bender swings at a 3-2 pitch and lines a hit to right and 2 runs score!! 6 to 1, Jays! Bender has 3 hits today! He had 3 on the SEASON coming into the game! He was a last minute addition to the lineup, put in there, not because of Bert Swope's 0 for 33 streak, but because the Robins lead the League in steals and ran pretty much at will yesterday on Swope. P Victor Espinoza swings away and grounds into a 6-4-3 double play...

Bottom of the Sixth:

With 1 out, Skip Dunkin triples to left center. His second triple of the game. Two triples and two errors in a game is a fairly rare exacta, I would think. Andres Borges flies out to right, as he did after Dunkin's last triple, but now Joe Roberts and his sprained elbow are out there instead of Dennis Brown and Dunkin scores. 6 to 2, Jays.

Top of the Seventh:

On the Hill: Brian Brenner (32-R), after a scoreless 6th. CF Frank Wendell (33-R) grounds a hit to left. Tony Becerra takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. Ed Diskin lines a hit to right and Wendell beats the throw home! 7 to 2, Jays! Junior Danielson grounds into a 6-4-3 double play and Becerra goes to 3rd. Garrett Bender grounds out to short.

Won - 7 to 2

We had 12 hits and made no errors
Richmond had 4 hits and made 3 errors

Victor Espinoza (W 3-3) went 9 innings (CG), allowed 2 runs, 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 8, tying the team record set by Frank Cook (35-R). 121 pitches. We have had 3 CG by our staff on the season, all by Espinoza.

Greg Sinclair (L 3-4) went 5 innings, gave us 6 runs (5 earned), 9 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3.

LF Mike Volkman had a hit and 2 walks and scored a run. If he could play defense, he would be starting more often. CF/RF Joe Roberts had 2 hits and an RBI. 1B Tony Becerra hit a double, drew a walk and scored a run. 2B ed Diskin had 2 hits, scored a run and had an RBI. C Garrett Bender had 3 hits, scored a run and had 4 RBI. I think he will start for a while.

Down on the Farm:
P Mike Gaddis (32-R), who was 0-4 with a 12.18 ERA for Jacksonville to start the season, lost today and is now 0-4 with a 9.00 ERA for Daytona (A).
