So there are 2 main downsides, 1 these missions will be impossible for 99% of players and doing missions has always been a good way of earning points plus having fun. We'll points I'll come to, the fun aspect is a loss. I enjoyed the historic missions previously as you learned a bit about the players and teams involved, like who was in these great teams , now all that matters is the team they played for. So that's my main issue.
2nd issue. Is the ah chaos. These missions have essentially removed low tier diamonds from the game. There's literally no point in buying a sub 95 diamond now as they are pretty much the same price as the higher cards. For lower level ftp players that's an issue and will lead to more se only teams, pretty boring. However this might be offset by the investing opportunities a patient player can cash in on any missions that drop then buy the players they want once the dust settles. However you'd need some existing pp to make this work. In addition if everyone is doing this then card hoarding becomes an even bigger problem than it is now. For next year I'd actually propose a max number of unlocked cards you can have at any one time to mitigate, but tgas probably for another thread.
So in conclusion, I think fotf is bad but maybe not as bad as I first thought as I does also open up new opportunities if you are willing to play the ah a bit. For those not willing/able to do that I get 100% why you hate this.

Eh, I'm pretty sure if you can conquer all of Eurasia, that you can handle FOTF.
