SJL:
On Thursday, on the first day of the last full month of the 1977 regular season, the Columbus Whalers gave the upstart Boston Berserkers and the rest of the SJL a little reminder of just how mighty they are. They were led in this effort by their staff ace, Jim Norris, the reigning SJL Pitcher of the Year. It seems very likely that Norris will end up with the best ERA in the WPK this season and should be a strong contender for another Pitcher of the Year award.
MGL:
On the other hand, on the same day, with arguably the best pitcher in the game on the mound for the Brooklyn Aces- Aaron McNally- and with that pitcher earning Player of the Game honors, the under-achieving Aces still managed to loss a close one to the not-so-mighty San Francisco Velocity and once again it looks like the Aces will fall short in spite of having the best run differential in the league. Poor Aaron McNally who is pitching probably as well as he did in his back-to-back triple crown and Pitcher of the Year seasons of 1974 and 1975 but only has an 11-6 record to show for it. He does lead the MGL in ERA at 2.25 and will probably be competing with Sadahige Kawasaki for the MGL Pitcher of the Year honors at the end of the season.
