Won - 5 to 4

We are now 3-0 in extra innings!
4-16 in 9 inning games!

We had 13 hits and made no errors
Charlotte had 17 hits and made no errors

For the 1st time ever, we have gone 2 games without anyone hitting a home run for either side.

Mackie Reed went 5.1 innings, allowed 3 runs, 12 hits, no walks and struck out 3. He threw a WP. At bat, he drew a walk.
LHP Bill Grant (H 3) went 2.2 scoreless innings, allowed 2 hits and 1 walk.
RHP Barry Short (BS 1) got 1 out, allowed 1 run and 3 hits. Pia, my PA, is buying a train ticket.
RHP Roger Wallace (W 1-0), in his Major League debut, went 1.2 scoreless innings, allowed 1 walk and struck out 3.

Ron Simon went 5 innings, gave us 4 runs, 9 hits, 3 walks, 1 HBP and struck out 2. At bat, he was 2 for 2.
RHP Alan Howard (L 3-1) got 2 outs, gave us 1 run, 2 hits and 2 walks (1 INT).

LF Cal Doty, who is cold as ice, was hit by a pitch, walked intentionally twice and scored a run. 3B Brian Porter had 4 hits with a double, scored 2 runs and had the game winning RBI. RF Mike Volkman had 2 hits with a double, scored a run and had an RBI and threw a runner out at home. SS Leander Gooding had 2 hits and 2 RBI. C Bert Swope had 2 hits and 2 walks and scored a run. PH Bobby Scrogham drew a walk.

For Charlotte, SS Marty Derringer had 4 hits with a triple, scored a run and had an RBI.

Trudy's report on CF Joe Roberts is a sprained elbow that she figures to take a month to heal, but should only hinder his throwing. Since we have very few outfielders who are not slackers, he will continue to play.
