Opening Day!
Baseball America picks 4 teams to be in a dogfight for the Southern Division: Birmingham, Charlotte, Memphis and Richmond. Memphis is their choice to edge out the others as Champions. But they say whoever wins the South will lose the Millennial Cup to the Syracuse Sycamores, who they say are they class of the League. They have sanely picked us to have the worst record in the League. SS Ray Holloway and CF Jose Vazquez are the biggest stars on the Robins.
Jacksonville Jays at
Richmond Robins
JAX: Victor Espinoza (36-R) (1-1 5.91 ERA 10.2 IP, 17 H, 1 HR, 5 BB, 5 SO this Spring) vs.
RICH: Bruce Rich (23-R) (1-0 0.00 ERA 8 IP, 5 H, 0 HR, 0 BB, 6 SO this Spring)
Baseball America ranks Espinoza as the 3rd best pitcher in the League. How many starts will we get out of him and will we be able to trade him before he blows out his arm?
Editor's Note: The Letter Grades for defense reflect the player's overall rating at the position as assigned by the Game on a 1-10 scale:
A++ = 12
A+ = 11
A = 10
B+ = 9
B = 8
C+ = 7
C = 6
D+ = 5
D = 4
D- = 3
F = 2
F- = 1
Pitcher's get 2 added to their rating to get the Letter Grade, except that there is no D- rating for them. A natural rating of 1 = F.
I would prefer that 9 would equal an A minus, rather than a B plus, but the minus symbol is not as easy to spot as the plus symbol.
