Not to speak too much of challenge mode. But when it first launched I was excited as I usually like hardcore or ironman mode in games and challenge mode sure looked like the same thing.
But then by the next version I realized it was different then those other game modes because it locks out a vast majority of settings which can total muck up your universe to where its a new save.
Now I look at challenge mode only for players who chase packs for Perfect Team. As random packs are tied into challenge mode achievements.
And lots of games put achievements behind higher difficulty or special modes. I am cool with that. I just dislike everything about challenge mode. So always warn players not to use it. Unless its a 1 off throw away type of season.
Devs need to take a look at BattleTech's system. The difficulty scale is pro-rated depending on options. Nothing is locked out. So they can still compare user points from vastly different setups. Which is the point of ootp challenge mode to give users a comparison on the same virtual field.
It just doesn't work because OOTPb's #1 main game mechanic is it vast options/settings so to remove or lock them out behind a mode is kind of silly.
