Just to update: Nothing I have tried has made this go away.

I've done a uninstall\reinstall that included deleting all folders and starting fresh. I also tried the Steam version, never been on my system before, so certainly a clean install. No joy.

Tested the 32G of RAM per Matt's suggestion, it came back with no issues.

Started a new game to eliminate anything in my present game as the cause. New game crashed on the first try.

Only crashes during a 3d game in progress. Other two games graphics games I've played have had no issues.

I've eliminated the modded sound files as a cause, I've crashed with default as well as modded.

Was running sound through a steinberg ur242 usb audio interface to krk monitoring speakers. To insure it wasn't something in the steinberg software I went back to my old trusty logitech speakers. Crashes with both.

The card is a nvidia 1660ti, 6g ram,up to date drivers, direct x 12. Can't imagine it's hanging up here unless their is a defect in the card. Though playing Rome Total War 2, at some high settings, without issue would make me think the card is fine. Having said that I think my next step is to try different 3d settings if for nothing else to exclude the possibility that my particular card simply doesn't play nice with OOTP.

Per Matt's suggestion, if it's not the memory and not the card not sure what else I could look at? The drives? Well I've run fast springs version off the boot drive a pcie WD ssd with ~380G of 500G open and the Steam version off my secondary 1T samsung ssd. Crashed on both.

As I said above, at least I can play and get a few games in without issue. But when something classic is going on, no hitter, 3 hr game, etc. I get very nervous that it's going to go "poof" and be lost forever.

Lukas, Alex, and Matt have all been great trying to help, I couldn't ask for more. Not their fault if there is something peculiar with my system.

Thanks guys.
