Then I saw the great critics and I decided to give it a try. And also because I like sport management games. Also was attracted by the fact that numbers and statistics play an important role in the game. But first I had to understand the very basics of baseball, from scratch.
After a few weeks, I now understand the basic rules of this sport and I can watch matches with pleasure. I also watched the Moneyball movie and I'm currently reading the book. It's in fact an incredible sport ! And the game OOTP is great. So to answer your question: both, I'm becoming a fan of baseball and of OOTP.
But there's so much still to learn ! And that' the good news :-) Will take years to feel like an American about baseball (if ever) :-)
Baseball is becoming a passion :-)

Markus and Co need to use this in their advertising for OOTP 22.
I only have 2 French players in my league. Both are created by me but came over from High Heat & Hardball (games in the late 90's)
