Settlements Today

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

14 July 2296 - Finch Farm

Each Tuesday for the upcoming weeks through the playoffs, we will feature one of the settlements, teams, and owners of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. This is meant to tell you more about life in the Commonwealth, as well as give you more information about the teams and their owners.

In our fourteenth installment of "Settlement Today," I visited the most successful farm in the northeast, Finch Farm.

When Nate Howard first came across Finch Farm it was a small family farm way too close for comfort to the Forged, a raider group that took over Saugus Ironworks and used the forging pits there to convert newcomers by fire; a Gunners group in the nearby Hub City Auto Wreckers junkyard; and a super mutant stronghold at Revere Satellite Array.

Abraham Finch's younger son, Jake, joined the Forge hoping to provide protection to his family. According to an intranet terminal, "After a disagreement, he left to join the Forged, a group of fire-worshiping fanatics established in the nearby Saugus Ironworks. When he left he took his father's Shishkebab [fire sword], a family heirloom, to give to the Forged. His hope was that it would help gain favor with their leader Slag and that they would raid settlements outside the Commonwealth."

Nate answered Abraham's call to retrieve the sword from the Forged. Along with Heather Casden and Piper Wright, Nate stormed Saugus Ironworks and erased the Forge from existence. He also rescued Jake from them and sent Jake and Shishkebab back to Finch Farm. From there, Nate also cleared out the Gunners and super mutants, making Finch Farm a safe settlement for growing and moving crops.

By 2290, the settlement had taken hold, and residents had built onto the damaged overpass structure to be a safe spot to live. With the help of a lot of robot labor, the settlers were able to move structures onto the overpass to give them the protection they needed from up above. Sentinels still man the upper area in case any groups with bad intentions make their way towards the settlements.

Now, the area, in addition to lots of farmlands, has a market area that helps in processing and shipping crops to all of Charlestown and parts of Downtown Boston.

Owner - Abraham Finch

Originally, according to the terminal, Abraham was "located at Finch farm with his wife Abigail and his two sons, Daniel and Jake. There tends to often be conflict between Abraham and Jake, which is the most likely reason his son ran away and joined the Forged."

Abraham Finch

With Abraham being a shrewd businessman in combination with successfully farming and providing food to the downtown area, Finch Farm was a no-doubt location for a franchise.

His sons, Daniel and Jake, look to be the likely successors to team ownership and control of Finch Farm. Daniel deals more with the farm side of business, while Jake has been directly involved with the baseball team, even managing the team this season and handling personnel decisions in acquiring players.
