Settlements Today
by Nat Wright-Kowalski
23 June 2296 - Concord
Each Tuesday for the upcoming weeks through the playoffs, we will feature one of the settlements, teams, and owners of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. This is meant to tell you more about life in the Commonwealth, as well as give you more information about the teams and their owners.
In our eleventh installment of "Settlement Today," I visited Nate Howard's hometown, Concord.
According to the intranet and the Museum of Freedom, Concord has a long history in pre-War Massachusetts: "Concord was a famous historic town, founded in 1635[1], famous along with nearby Lexington as the site of several battles that lead to the American Revolutionary War. The town's centerpiece, the Museum of Freedom, described these events and welcomed tourists, as the rest of the city shows remnants of patriotic bunting, flags, and signs. Sanctuary Hills, a suburb of Concord, was the home of the Sole Survivor before the Great War.
"In 2287, the city is a raider stronghold, and upon the Sole Survivor's emergence from nearby Vault 111 it is where Preston Garvey and his group become trapped after the Quincy Massacre."
Concord 2288 - After the raiders were permanently evicted but before building repairs took place
After Nate Howard cleared out the raiders from Concord, he later had a crew come in and start clearing out downtown Concord. Redeemable buildings were repaired, and the Minutemen made the town its Northwest Commonwealth stronghold. Today, the town is mostly secured by fences and other barriers with Minutemen posts all around it.

Owner - Sturges
Sturges was one of the group of Minutemen Nate Howard saved from the Museum of Freedom. According to the intranet, "An escaped synth, Sturges is a talented repairman, capable of fixing anything that passes through his hands. He also possesses considerable knowledge of the pre-War world, but unfortunately, all that knowledge does not translate into hacking or lock picking talents. He was a long-time handyman in Quincy before the city fell to the Gunners, responsible for restoring power armor frames bought from the Atom Cats garage to full functionality. After the Minutemen's arrival and routing the initial Gunner attackers, he lamented that the one he had on hand couldn't be used to lift lumber to fortify the defenses across the city."
Sturges then moved on to Sanctuary Hills where he began repairing and building up the community there. That community eventually expanded out of Sanctuary Hills to the Concord area, a place where the bombs damaged but barely destroyed any buildings. Many more settlers started to arrive from the northwest, with many stopping in Concord instead of continuing to Boston.
Cola King
Though they did not start the season as the Radstags' sponsor, Nuka-Cola is now their sponsor, which also changed the stadium's name to Nuka Park.
According to the intranet, "Nuka-Cola is the flagship product of the Nuka-Cola Corporation and one of the symbols of United States culture. Introduced in 2044, it rapidly dominated the soft drink market, eventually becoming the most popular soda on the market and a staple of American culture. Bottled and distributed nationwide, Nuka-Cola was available in such numbers that even two centuries after the Great War put a stop to all bottling operations, Nuka-Cola bottles can still be found in the wastelands in large quantities. In the aftermath of the Great War, Nuka-Cola bottle caps became the de facto currency in most post-War societies."
With the reemergence of John-Caleb Bradberton, Nuka-Cola is sure to be a powerful partner in the Commonwealth baseball scene. There has been rumors of expansions to the extent Nuka-Cola sponsors the league, with an announced revisit by Bradberton at the start of the playoffs in mid-August.
