Ok here's my best explanation for what happened below. The batter hits a grounder that goes all the way to the RF wall. In his haste to get out of the batters box and get rid of the bat, he inadvertently drops it at his feet and then trips over it. In falling over it, he somehow flipped the bat with his feet and it came up and hit him in the head, addling him. As he falls down trying to shake the cobwebs from his head, both the CF & RF are so mesmerized by what just happened they forget to go after the ball. The alert 1B however runs all the way to the fence to retrieve the ball as the whole rest of the defense stands and watches the hapless batter try to half walk- half crawl towards 1B. Fortunately for the defense, the 1st baseman still has his wits and he runs back to 1B just in time to beat the weaving, addled batter for the out. (Ok, maybe not, but its as good a tale as any)
