Anyone know the answer definitively?
So I could trade for Torrealba, who has really captured my imagination, in my latest save.
I'm pretty sure I could get him for a relative pittance in return - maybe Carson Fullmer (lol) - but I also see he has a pro contract, earning $2,500 per year. As well, please note that he has "cleared waivers".
So my question is this: If I trade for him, will I have to give him an MLB entry level salary and add him to the 40-man roster? Or, since he has cleared waivers, can I just pay him the balance of his $2,500 salary and put him in the minors, without wasting.....er, using....a 40-man roster spot?
I'd really like to have him in my system because I think his stick-to-itiveness and perseverance would serve as a great role model for some of our younger pitchers.
But I certainly don't want to waste.....er, use....a 40-man roster spot on him and I'm sure Jerry Reinsdorf - as generous as he is - would prefer I not pay him 565K.
Everything has it's price and so does Torrealba, as much as I might admire him.
