Post Season moves leading up to free agency.

Oct 27, 1980
CF Jose Cardenal (37) retired. Jose had a solid 17 year career but barely played this year for us.
Toronto offers us SS Alfredo Griffin (23, 44/47) for SP Craig Swan (29, 48/48). Griffin is a huge upgrade over Doug Flynn (29, 36/36) and Frank Taveras (30, 37/37) and helps us get younger. Griffin was AL Rookie of the Year in 79.

Nov 17, 1980 - Arbitration Hearings
1980 Salary Demand Team Offer Award
Tom Hausman $88,700 $125,000 $100,000 $100,000
Willie Wilson $266,000 $360,750 $300,000 $360,750
Doug Flynn $87,500 $125,000 $100,000 $100,000
Ed Glynn $106,200 $147,900 $120,000 $147,900
Roy Lee Jackson $51,920 $118,000 $75,000 $75,000
Lee Mazzilli $280,000 $400,000 $325,000 $400,000
Alfredo Griffin $247,500 $350,000 $275,000 $275,000
Pat Zachry $218,000 $300,000 $276,000 $300,000

I am a little disappointed with some of the awards in arbitration but I think that is just because I am cheap when it comes to salaries.

I didn't make many moves leading up to free agency. I would have liked to be more active but I am learning that one of the reasons the Mets rebuild took so long is because they have very few players anyone else wants. I did offer a number of minor league free agents contracts but none have signed as of yet.
