WORLD SERIES GAME FOUR

This is a big game for the Superbas. If they win, they are one game away for the Championship. If they lose, it is guaranteed that the series will go back to Philadelphia.

Every game so far has been a shut out. Christy Mathewson beat Ed Walsh 1-0 in Game one.

What will happen today?

Top of the 1st

Nap Lajoie singles with two out and then goes to 2nd on a wild pitch. He then scores on a double by Dick Hoblitzell.

Athletics lead 1-0

Bottom of the 1st

3 up, 3 down

Top of the 2nd

Harry Lord leads off with a single but is erased on a double play. Jose Costello walks but is left.

Bottom of the 2nd

Danny Murphy reaches on an error by Lord. He advances to 2nd on a passed ball. He scores on a two out single by Ed Clark.
The shutout streak is broken.

Game tied 1-1

Top of the 3rd

Lajoie singles with two out, but that is all.

Bottom of the 3rd

Mathewson leads off with a single. He goes to 2nd on a one out single by Bob Unglaub. The inning ends with a double play.

Top of the 4th

Tommy Leach leads off with a single and goes to 2nd on a sac bunt by Lord. Jon Michael throws him out trying to steal 3rd.

Bottom of the 4th

Murphy reaches with a leadoff walk. He is replaced by Phil Dunn on a fielder's choice. Bill Jackson moves him up a base with a single. Ed Clark singles to load the bases. Michael singles and both Dunn and Jackson score! Two men are left.

Superbas lead 3-1

Top of the 5th

3 up, 3 down

Bottom of the 5th

Unglaub leads off with a single. Sam Crawford replaces him with a fielder's choice. With two out, Dunn reaches on an error by Lord. They are both left on.

Top of the 6th

Lajoie doubles with one out. Mathewson strikes out the next two batters.

Bottom of the 6th

With two out, Mathewson walks, but that is all they get.

Top of the 7th

3 up, 3 down

Bottom of the 7th

3 up, 3 down

Top of the 8th

Walsh reaches with a leadoff error by Donie Bush. Dode Paskert replaces Walsh with a fielder's choice. He moves to 2nd on a two out single by Lajoie. Both runners move up on a wild pitch. A single by Hoblitzell and an error by Crawford puts the batter on 2nd and a tie game.

Game tied 3-3

Bottom of the 8th

Jackson reaches on a one out single. He is thrown out trying to steal 2nd.

Top of the 9th

Jose Costello gets a two out single and goes to 3rd on a single by Walsh. Both runners are left on.

Bottom of the 9th

Bottom of the 10th

Ginger Beaumont pinch hits for Crawford and walks with one out. With two out, Dunn singles, moving Beaumont to 2nd. Both are left.

Beaumont stays in to play CF.

Top of the 12th

With one out, Walsh takes 1st on an error by Dunn. He scores on a triple by Paskert. Paskert then scores on a sac fly by Johnny Bates.

Athletics lead 5-3

Bottom of the 12th

With one out, Unglaub walks. Beaumont singles, putting the potential tying run on base.
Harry Krause relieves for Philadelphia.
Danny Murphy hits into a double play.

Game over.

Philadelphia wins 5-3 in 12 innings and the series is now tied 2-2.

Game five will be game two rematch of Mordecai Brown vs Orval Overall. That went the Athletics' way the first time around.
