The secret to learning the game (at least, it worked for me) is to start by concentrating on just a few things. Load a quickstart, pick a team. Run it for a while without worrying too much about minor leagues and the like. The AI can handle them. Just set pitching staffs and lineups, and call up replacements when guys are injured. It should become intuitive fairly quickly.
