For the most part I dislike the storyline mechanic. They are very static us as the player generally have no bearing on the events or outcome. So I don't feel bad for turning off.
Need to take a page from FM player interaction.

What about making your own stories? I think I have seen somewhere in the forums lists which contain scenarios with actions to take triggered by the result of a dice roll. I think these have much more potential to be meaningful. Plus they potentially dig into OOTP's greatest asset - the community - for generating fresh and relevant ideas that get the most out of the game. For example, having lists for different scenarios, depending on the league you are playing. In my case, I am developing a fictional universe involving expansion etc, potentially competing leagues fighting over coveted markets, the involvement of media contracts etc. So I've been pondering how to make that come more to life using a list of potential scenarios which the game can't provide on its own. Things like - when to expand the league, when to contract, scenarios that expand a team's stadium or market size etc is a small sample of what could contribute to a meaningful 'storyline', which actually utilizes the data generated by the game. Some of it would be generated by data, others generated by chance (dice roll) or some combination. I don't think a forum section exists already with this, but in the mods section if members wanted to they could start and contribute to a list, with the theme of the list given to start with, so all contributions would align with that theme (iow, would need to clearly show how the scenario reflects the theme). Could also create some interesting discussions as to why a scenario fits a theme, how it would likely be treated by the game software, which is something only veterans of the game would know much about. Could be a game changer.
