Unknown Players In Capped Tournaments
Hey all,
I'm reasonably new to the OOTP Perfect Team scene (and OOTP in general), and I've been having a blast with it so far. I'm really enjoying the tournament setup, and particularly capped tournaments. I ran into a setup today that I hadn't seen before, and wanted to ask the community whether it's a valid strategy to pursue for myself or a little bit of an exploit.
In a Gold/Non-Live/1750 capped tournament, I ran into a team (who I won't name, that's not the point here) with only six position players. I thought that was kind of weird; did they have some good hitting pitchers? Nope, they actually had only 18 players overall, and left the spots in the lineup empty, which led to some players named J. Unknown getting the start at three spots in their lineup. It appears that J. Unknown is selected randomly from the player base -- my opponent had plenty of bronzes playing slightly out of position, but they also had a Diamond future legend Joey Bart at catcher.
This seems like a strategy that is probably worth pursuing given that you already need to semi-punt some positions in capped tourneys (or at least use some Belanger/young Clemente type cards that are low-rating). But it also feels a little weird to me to purposefully design my team this way, so I wanted to get a general sense of whether that's just considered a neat little strategic optimization or somewhat unsporting before trying it myself. What say you?
