I can understand this, and I don't fault anyone who plays OOTP like this. Everyone has different preferences. As for me, I play as GM only, so I do not interfere with my manager's in-game decisions. He has the lineup card. If he doesn't do things to my liking, I can fire him and hire someone else. If he's starting someone who I think shouldn't be starting, this brief tutorial video will demonstrate one way to deal with that issue:
