Eastham is a town based in the Upper Cape and is home to some of the prettiest beaches in the entire area. Nauset Light Beach is arguably one of the best beaches on the Cape, with a magnificent lighthouse and being on the National Seashore, it’s one of the most popular places to sit and relax. (Get there early though cause the parking lot is small and terrible.)
Also as someone fascinated with pirates, I have to mention that the only “Golden Age” pirate ship found in the United States was found off the coast of Eastham. When a strong storm hit off the coast in 1717, it pulled the
Whydah into Eastham cliffs, destroying the ship and all on it. Famously this is how Sam Bellamy or "Black Sam" perished, one of the most famous pirates of his time.
Now back to baseball.
The Eastham Blue Sox were the second worst team in the CCBL and the worst in the Eastern League. There was a lot to rebuild here and this seems to be a long term rebuild. But talking to owner Joe Rubio, he expects the Blue Sox to be a playoff team by
next year. Great. I don’t know how long term this renovation will be with these delusional expectations, but we will have to do our best to try.
His goals are stated as...
- Reach the Playoffs (Uh sir, have you seen this team? 99 losses?)
- Increase attendance from 35968 to 38400 a game (This can be done if we compete earlier than expected)
- Build a championship team by the 2033 season. (Possible if everything goes right but with crazy expectations already, I don’t know how long I’ll last)
Next, I will talk about arbitration and who to keep and who to let go of. I will also start looking at the needs we need to fill in free agency, cause oh boy are there a lot of them!
