Standings on June 1, 1980
The 13-32 Mets fell 6 more games behind the first place Pirates to sit 15 1/2 games out of first place on June 1.
I know the season is only a little over a quarter over but there are some fun stats so far.
One player from each league is still hitting over .400, George Brett .419 in the AL and Bill Buckner .411 in the NL. Brett also leads the AL in HRs with 11.
Richie Hebner, who had 60 rbi all of last season in New York, leads the American League in runs batted in with 40. Trading him for Mankowski and Morales looks even worse now since neither player made the Mets roster out of spring training.
Steve Carlton 0.81 and JR Richard 0.87 lead the NL with ERAs below 1.00. Bill Travers 1.84 and Brian Kingman 1.90 lead the AL.
