No-Hit Masterpiece by deGrom:
Is it better to be lucky or good?
After leading the Indiana State Sycamores to victory, 17-0, and tossing a no-hitter over the Kent State Golden Flashes, Jacob deGrom didn't have the answer.
"I don't know," deGrom said. "To do what I did today, I'm pretty sure it takes both."
On his big day at Sycamore Stadium, deGrom fanned 16 and had no walks. And it seemed that when the Golden Flashes managed to hit the ball hard, it went right at a defender.
"That's how you get a no-hitter," deGrom said with a smile. "A lot of skill mixed with a little luck."
In 9 starts this season, deGrom has recorded 3 wins and absorbed 3 losses. He has pitched 64.2 innings, allowed 47 hits, struck out 97 and has a 2.51 ERA.
