O'Dell Untouchable, Tosses No-Hitter:
Billy O'Dell relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Houston hitless in a 4-0 win at Illinois Field today.
"Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter," he said later. "We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up nine runs but a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. I kept the Cougars off balance and guessing the whole game."
The 24-year-old starter rung up 11 strikeouts and 1 walk in whipping the Cougars.
"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," Houston skipper John Bridges said.
In 9 starts this season O'Dell has recorded a 5-2 record and a 2.47 ERA.
