In the bottom of the first, the Mariners loaded the bases with nobody out. Boone flew to left for the first out without bringing home a run. Nomo then struck out Olerud and two were gone. Cameron then struck out as well to end the inning without the Mariners scoring.
In the top of the second, Jay Bell put the Red Sox on the board with an RBI single.
In the bottom of the second, the Mariners loaded the bases with one out. Suzuki tied the game with an RBI single but Nixon threw Wilson out at home as he tried to score from second. Martinez walked to reload the bases with two out. But Boone flew out to right to end the inning.
In the top of the third, Everett led off with a 407 foot homer.
After three: Boston 2 Seattle 1.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Mariners again loaded the bases, this time with two out. But Wilson lined to second to end the inning.
In the top of the sixth, Ramirez hit a solo shot 391 feet.
In the bottom of the sixth, Sun-Woo Kim took the mound for the Red Sox.
After six: Boston 3 Seattle 1.
In the top of the eighth, Arthur Rhodes took the mound for the Mariners.
In the bottom of the ninth, Derek Lowe took the mound for the Red Sox and retired the Mariners in order.
The Red Sox won despite only getting 3 hits the entire game. Nomo got the win despite giving up an AL record-tying 8 walks.
