The fighters are tied up. Gerrie Coetzee tries to extract himself. He gets his arms free.
Referee Griffin has to separate the two ...
Coetzee rips a hook to the head.
And now it appears as if Walcott's cut has been reopened … Walcott is wiping his eye with his glove.
Blood is trickling from the cut over Walcott's eye; And it looks like . . . yes . . .
Referee Griffin is notifying the timekeeper to stop the clock.
He wants the doctor at ringside to take a look at Walcott's facial wound.
The doctor is peering at the wound and he's shrugged his shoulders and he's shaking his head - is that a good thing or bad?
The damage isn't that bad and Walcott and Coetzee await the signal from the referee to commence firing.
Coetzee just absorbed a terrifying shot to the body.
Coetzee can't find the range as he tries to work the body.
Walcott scores with quick series of shots to the body of Coetzee.
Walcott walks into a glancing hook from Gerrie Coetzee.
The cut on the eyelid of Walcott is starting to bleed more heavily now as additional damage has caused it to widen
The referee wants to get a better look at the cut above Jersey Joe Walcott's eye.
Now, he just steps in again and stops the action.
Griffin is escorting Walcott over to the ringside doctor to get an opinion on the severity of the cut.
After some dabbing and swabbing and talking to the fighter, the doctor has concluded that the fight needn't be stopped.
As the round ends, both fighters continue to wing shots. That was another good round of action.

Round 9

The bell sounds to start Round 9.
Walcott's corner gave his cut on the left eyelid priority during the minute off.
Oh! Coetzee catches Walcott coming in with a sweet uppercut!
That uppercut has reopened Walcott's previous wound because Walcott is now bleeding once again!
Blood is visible once again on the face of Walcott as the cut on his eyelid has reopened.
Walcott is blinking, trying to clear his vision.
Walcott's pawing at his eye and there may be some blood trickling into that eye from the cut above it.
The referee must have noticed because we have a stop in the action as Griffin motions toward the ringside physician.
They're going to take a close look at the cut again!
And Referee Griffin has halted the bout as the ringside physician has climbed onto the apron.
He is taking a real close look at Walcott's cut as his corner looks on.
And that's it! Referee Griffin is waving it off. This fight is over!
Coetzee wins by TKO due to the severity of Walcott's eye injury!

Jeff Connor has the call ...
