The issues with converting the saved games is not a problem with us, it's a problem with Mac, who in their wisdom decided it would be good idea to force you to have a "sandbox" system where the Mac OS doesn't allow games to access files from outside their own file structure.
If you revert to an older version of the Mac OS from before they made that change, it should "fix" the problem. Or just make sure to copy the save to the same directory OOTP21 uses for its saves, which should get around the sandbox limitations.
As far as the crashing, we're looking into this, but it's extremely hard to pin down unfortunately. We will keep trying though.
