Time for the Pennant push, and in G306, the Secret Harbour Pirates (90-43) have all but guaranteed October baseball and are pushing for the No. 1 seed in the National. The Pirates have a 20-game lead in the WC, an 8 1/2 game lead in the division, and a 1 1/2 game lead over the world famous Florida Fire Frogs for home-field advantage. They also have a very pleasant .461 strength of schedule for the remaining 29 games. Greg Maddux is Gred Maddux - he only walked four batters in the entire month of August, dropping his ERA below 3.00 (2.93). Surprisingly, it's Duke Snider who leads the team in home runs (23). Even more surpringsly, Jason Kendall is outplaying Yogi Berra. Now, don't get me wrong - Yogi is slashing a perfectly cromulent .303/.356/.458 with 8 HR and 39 RBI in 66 games. But Kendall is playing out of his skull - .331/.384/.510 with 9 HR and 34 RBI in 63 games. With 36K in the bank and a potential cash infusion of even more, we have identified a couple areas of need and are waiting patiently for the right players at the right price to make themselves known to us.

After complaining about the Arequipa Alpacas (62-72) mediocre performance, the team has gone and earned seven packs in the 36 hours since I put the phasers on blast. And really, with a pack-only team, isn't that the name of the game? You might look at their record and think they don't have a shot, but they are just 3 1/2 games out in an "anyone can win it" division where the leaders are three games under .500 - indeed, Pennant Chase gives the Alpacas a 10.3 chance of winning the division. The Alpacas have a .466 SOS for the stretch run.

The Lynn Live Oaks (78-55) crossed a milestone yesterday, as they have now acquired more than 50% of the Live cards available. They are also trying to make the playoffs for the first time in three seasons. The Oaks are two games out of first in ST160, NC West, with a four-game series coming up at home against the leading Fargo Syndicate. The Oaks also have a four-game lead in the WC race (7 games up on third) and a 98% chance of making the playoffs. Jeff Bagwell has been doing the business for the Live Oaks, crushing 38 homers in the friendly confines of Lynn Tricentennial Park as he makes a run at 50. Jose Ramirez needs one more homer for another 20/20 season (he has 41 SB) and Ian Kinsler needs four more SB for his own 20/20 season.

And finally, don't look now, but the Bibra Lake Quendas (69-64) are just 2 1/2 games out of the WC spot and have a 43% chance at the playoffs with a .470 SOS, in what was always supposed to be a season of consolidation in I175. With that in mind, I'm pleased about two things: that the Quendas are holding their own, and that a Future Legends collection mission didn't drop yesterday to send the prices of the cards skyrocketing once again.
